Seize the moment

I don't really like using my blog as a place to moan - that's not what people come here for. I should be like Marian a.k.a. Granny (who is currently 'under the weather') and give everyone a laugh a minute. But occasionally I just have to let off steam about feeling poorly.

I came across this wonderful quote on Tricia's blog - The Girl Who Wears My Shoes.
“I always wanted a happy ending… Now I’ve learned, the hard way, that some poems don’t rhyme, and some stories don’t have a clear beginning, middle and end. Life is about not knowing, having to change, taking the moment and making the best of it without knowing what’s going to happen next. Delicious ambiguity.” - Gilda Radner

There are times when I feel OK - very little pain and quite bright and breezy. There are times when life is a real bitch - a lot of pain and feeling exhausted. The weird thing is that I can change from one to the other in the space of half an hour. I haven't quite got to the stage of seeing it as delicious ambiguity yet but I am slowly learning to accept not knowing what is going to happen next a bit more positively. The worst part about it is not being able to plan. Will I be well enough to do whatever I've been invited to do? I don't know, ask me again when the time comes...

Carpe diem - seize the day - has always been one of my favourite Latin tags. After a day of really good moments and really bad ones I've decided Carpe punctum temporis is even better - seize the moment.

  1. Sorry if this means you are having a tough time right now. I hope it is short lived --- if that is indeed the case. I don't think that can be considered moaning either. Thanks for the link.

    I miss Granny too.

  2. Wonderful quote from Gilda! I wish for you many more of those good moments, and a lot less of those that are full of pain and exhaustion.

  4. Sweet brother-friend of mine, that's how I see's you :)

I do understand your description and the frustration that goes with it, and it's okay to complain a little here and there - this is YOUR blog and not any of us who love you will turn from you when you have the moments of complaining. We all do it, we all need to hear that others understand.

I've learned that life is predictably unpredictable and, shoot, God told us not to plan ahead like we know we'll be able to do what we think we will, right?

Often times, the world around us just doesn' live in the moment - but that is exactly how we should be living.

I am so sorry to hear that you're suffering but happy to hear that you're not continually suffering.

    Love to you, my brother-friend.

  5. Sometimes life just sucks. And sometimes it just hurts. So your "Seize the moment makes good sense." Sometimes life affords vistas that span decades... other times... it's all fog and we can only see the next step. Such is life. Steps or miles, depends on the "weather." Seems that life and the weather are often beyond our control. "I see myself and others through kind eyes." If you make plans and have to cancel, others who know you will understand. They view you through kind eyes. They are your friends and loved ones.

  6. There's nothing delicious about the ambiguity of your pain, for sure! That must be a really tough one for you!
I'm wishing many more good moments, than not so good, my friend!

  7. If you can look on the bright side, if you feel pain, you are alive. Moan away, if you need help come to the master of the winge. Tricia, you may want to rephrase that comment, made me smile

  8. Seize life as it comes by! The good moments are worth remembering during the bad ones. And don't forget, Carpe Jugulum too :)

  10. I know about shifting pains and the difficulties to make plans. Some days you feel you can accept it but some days it's just sooo frustrating. And hard to keep explaining to other people. I have, or had - used to keep it in my diary, but can't find it right now - a wonderful comic strip from Peanuts/ Charlie Brown, I think it was Charlie saying to Linus, something like: "I used to take one day at a time; now I'm down to half a day at a time..."
