Barnston Towers

Not far from us is this interesting building.

Barnston Towers (the 1852 remodelling of an earlier building) is a circular brick castellated structure associated with a coach house and stables. Two towers were originally constructed but one has been demolished.

  1. Great pic, very rustic and old looking. Do you know what those "things" are on the roof?

  2. Hi Jeannette, I haven't been able to find out the origins but I suspect the two towers were just very fancy gatehouses - effectively follies - and the things on the roof are just pretend battlemnets that have been painted a different colour for some reason.

  3. BOTH of these buildings share character, only unique in their own. I REALLY like these pictures.

I have a sort of fascination with castles and such type's...really, they interest me. I think that and the "green" or Ireland, may be what creates a desire in me to be one of my "wish to go to someday" places.

THANK YOU MUCH, for sharing these.

  5. Oh, that is such a cool building! Being in a part of the world without many old buildings, these things fascinate me.

Thanks for putting the blogging with discipline button on your blog! (Although you definitely didn't need any encouragement in that direction!)

  8. Fascinating, Sir! Pretty unusual rounded structure to the house, I would have thought...

  9. My Father and Grandmother used to live in Barnston Towers. Grannie didn't own it, however, she was the live-in maid! This would have been in the 1930s or early '40s I think. My Dad may well know something of the history of the towers. I'll ask him.
