Rossi the Goat (Greatest of all Time) six times Moto GP; 125 c.c.; and 250cc Champion.
Last Sunday, Valentino Rossi – the newly crowned 2008 MotoGP Champion - had an accident in qualifying and started in twelfth place at Philip Island. He just zoomed past people on the first couple of laps and with 24 laps to go he overtook two more and went into 5th place.
This despite having had Alex de Angelis crash a metre in front of him. This was the view from Rossi’s bike as Alex went past him! 22 laps to go and he moved past his team mate Lorenzo into 4th place behind Stoner, Hayden and Toseland. Then he took Toseland but got re-taken which slowed up his chase of Hayden and Stoner. The two of them swapped places a few times until with 15 laps to go Rossi began to draw away and hunt back the eight second gap between himself and the leader, Casey Stoner.
It took until the last lap for Rossi to take Hayden and second place behind Stoner. That meant the podium of this race had three champions (those of 2007, 2008 and 2006).
