Invest, invest, invest

In this current financial crisis, which has seen the Dow-Jones Index take its biggest one week drop in history, it is rather a worry that if you had invested in shares in some of the major American companies one year ago you would have lost a lot of money by now:-
$1,000 invested in Delta Airlines would today only be worth $49
$1,000 invested in the insurance company AIG would now yield only $33;
and $1,000 put into Lehman Bros. Global Investment Bank would now be worth zilch – they went bankrupt!

However, there is some good news as next month’s American election approaches. If you had invested your $1,000 in beer and drunk it, then turned in the aluminium cans for recycling refund you would have received $214. Based on the above, one of the best current investments for Americans is to drink beer and recycle.

By the way, a recent study showed that the average American walks 900 miles a year. Another study showed that Americans drink, on average, 22 gallons of alcohol a year. On that basis, the average American gets about 41 miles to the gallon!

(Thanks to .highgrowthstock.com for this super piece of information! Good to see a sense of humour – or should that be humor – still survives.)
