Odds and Sods
And the answer usually is ‘Blog’ even if I haven’t got much to say…
ODD:-
Why should one never trust a duck? Looking for something else I discovered a number of references to not trusting ducks. Why not? Does anyone know?
SOD:-
Our boiler is still not fixed and the weather has turned colder.

The duck thing is a quote from Clockwork Angel. I've not read it, but seen the quote floating around the internet.
ReplyDeleteA belated post script:
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to wish Jo a very Happy Mothering Sunday...I'm sorry I didn't send greetings to her earlier, but we never know when the occasion is celebrated in Britain because our calendars here never tell us -- the North American version is celebrated in May.
But in spite of being late, I hope she had a wonderful day. Hugs, Carol
It sounds like something that could well have been said in one of the Donald Duck cartoons and then just got lost in the mists of time.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure about the duck thing, either, but I can tell you that roleplayers know it, too. Never pick up a duck in a dungeon
ReplyDeleteI can only send hopes that you'll get the boiler fixed soon AND that the weather turns warmer again. It's the same here. Not the boiler but some very chilly winds blowing.
ReplyDeleteGot curious and googled that quote (haven't read the book):
“Remember when you tried to convince me to feed a poultry pie to the mallards in the park to see if you could breed a race of cannibal ducks?"
"They ate it too," Will reminisced. "Bloodthirsty little beasts. Never trust a duck.”
― Cassandra Clare, Clockwork Angel
Thank you, Jen for the source and Monica for the further explanstion. So now I know.
ReplyDeleteJedediah, I loved the illustration for the duck in a dungeon quote!
Sure hope your boiler gets fixed soon! I've always heard "Don't trust a duck, even though it quacks like a duck" ...who knows, it may be a local saying:)
ReplyDeleteI have put your award on my facebook page, to acknowledge you without having to avide by the rules(I know, sneaky) Most of my "friends" there are from blogspot -if you like to visit, I'm under the name Jesh St Germain -oh I forgot -you probably can also get there via networked blogs. Have a great week!
Clever, Jesh! I'll be over to visit....
ReplyDeleteWill from the clockwork angel book said that he once saw a duck trying to eat a chicken and seeing ducks at a pond with his parabatai Jem he comments that one should never trust a duck cuz they are cannibals
