Friend-who-loves-otters

Friends are born, not made.
                  Henry Adams (1838 - 1918)

As regular readers of this blog will know Daughter-who-takes-photos and Friend-who-loves-otters are getting married later this month. It occurred to me that perhaps I should then change his title to Son-in-law-who-loves-otters but I have had second thoughts. Why should Ian suddenly stop being a friend and become a relative? It may be a cliché but friends you can choose, relatives you can’t. (Or as another version goes – You can pick your friends, you can pick your nose but you can’t pick your relatives!) I’m very fortunate that my best friends include my close relatives among whom Helen and Ian rank most highly. So Ian will remain Friend-who-loves-otters.

  2. Ooo, Asian short-claws at Chester!?

I think since the precedent has already been set for relatives who are also best friends it's safe to adopt the new title. I am becoming an Edwards after all!

  5. I was rethinking this earlier... I don't want to be appear really greedy - but could I have both titles and become Friend-in-law-who-loves-otters?

... Rabbit asked "Honey or condensed milk with your bread?", Pooh replied "BOTH!", and then, so as not to appear too greedy, he added "But please don’t bother about the bread".
