Friday My Town Shoot-out

This week's Friday My Town Shoot-out subject is High 'n' Low. I'm not sure how other folk will interpret it but I have chosen to look down and up from a small area of Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis where I am staying with my brother.

Looking High - the Town Hall clock.

Looking Low - the pavement.

Looking high - Boots the Chemist notice above the chemist door.

Looking low - a note on the pavement telling us the shop was 'Formerly occupied by MacPherson and Co, druggists'.

Looking high again - the Baltic Bookshop notice.

And looking low we are told the shop was formerly occipied by the Baltic Boot Store and Louis Bittiner.

And by Boots entrance we can look high at a signpost showing the way to various places.

And 'Low' - at its base - I love the fact that someone has added a bottle to this little walking man sign.

Why not visit the link to other bloggers and see what pictures they have chosen this week?

  1. I love the little bottle. The pavement plaques are a really good idea.

  2. I think this was a clever way to show case the theme. If you notice when we see a high structure we automatically look at the low. Great idea.

  3. I like the fish plaque on the pavement, and the walking man sign - not because of the bottle, but simply because it is there.

  4. Stornoway appears to be a marvelous and interesting town. I appreciate how the town maintains a certain history when buildings change ownership by placing stones. I've never seen anything like that before. Enjoy your visit.

  7. The fish plaque is one I've never seen, what an imaginative way to depict a necessity. I'm glad you look where you walk as I loved the patterns on the pavements.

  10. I love the clock and the signpost. all are perfect for the theme. I want to hold the cat on your sidebar while I have coffee please, but not fire. we are at 86 with heat index of 111 today, at 5 AM so nothing hot but coffee.

  11. That's a beautiful clock tower, and I like that idea of having an inscription on the street what the building used to be before.
