Are these animal also called salamanders? I had a salamander for a pet as a kid. Its name was "Herman" because I didn't know if it was a "her" or a "man"! LOL!
Newts and Salamanders are closely related, Jen. I can tell the newts' sexes at this time of year because the males are much brighter on the underside but latter in the year it gets harder to tell the difference. Thanks Deedee, it's not quite Spring yet but we are getting there. Having said that we'll probably have another cold snap now in revenge for my presumption.
'm not sure whether it's me or the newts that's being compared to Gussie??? As I recall he tended to be the butt of Bertie's humour so perhaps it's me!
I realise that I am somewhat late in commenting, but thought that it was important that you know that I think that newts have cute noses (see picture of you holding one!).
Hello - thanks for dropping by to leave a comment. Your comments are much appreciated even if I don't always reply. They will appear as soon as they have been moderated.
I am using Instagram and Facebook a lot more nowadays and sometimes they are replacing my posts on the blog. If you want to follow me on Instagram my address is @cjohnedwards. On Facebook I can be found at Clive John Edwards but you will need to send me a request to follow me as it is not open to the public.
Now I'm green with jealousy!

Wonderful. As frogs are recent to the Island I assume that we don't have any newts: certainly never seen one. Presumably they eat the frog spawn.
ReplyDeleteWhy am I reminded of Gussie Finknottle?
