Our jug

This black bat overglaze transfer printed pottery jug dates from somewhere between 1780 and 1840. It is 6 inches tall and we purchased it at an antiques fair held in Pontins holiday camp in Ainsdale (I thought it was at St George’s Hall antiques fair, Liverpool, but I’ve found the receipt which says Pontins). It cost £40 in December 1990 and was our Christmas present to each other. We had a number of jugs hanging from hooks in our Victorian kitchen but had never really gone out of our way to collect them. This one, however, really took our fancy and we lashed out our hard-earned cash to take it home.

I’m sure I’ve told this story before but I can’t find a mention of it in my blogs unless I managed to write about it without using the words jugs and pottery which seems unlikely!

  3. Thank you Archduchess - so I wasn't going mad after all. Or at least, if I am that wasn't the latest sign of it.
