Happy Monday - When the boss knows best

Some of us are fated to meet organisations where common Sense goes out of the window, but then in this day of Political Correctness, Health and Safety, Liability Insurance and "Jobsworth" what do you expect.

Life is tough ..It's even tougher if you're stupid."

Good news: It was a normal day in Sharon Springs , KS when a Union Pacific crew boarded a loaded coal train for the long trek to Salina ..

The Bad news: Just a few miles into the trip a wheel bearing became overheated and melted, letting a metal support drop down and grind on the rail, creating white hot molten metal droppings spewing down to the rail.

The Good news: A very alert crew noticed smoke about halfway back in the train and immediately stopped the train in compliance with the rules.

The Bad news: The train stopped with the hot wheel over a wooden bridge with creosote ties and trusses.

The crew tried to explain to higher-ups but were instructed not to move the train under any circumstance!

They were instructed Rules prohibit moving the train when any part is defective!

RULES ARE RULES!

(Don't let common sense get in the way of a good disaster!)

As someone who has been battling for the last six months over parking violations on our street (vehicles blocking driveways and mailboxes, running over landscaping, etc. -- and the people responsible don't even live on this street!) one can only smile.
Hopefully, some help is on its way and the problems will all be resolved eventually. Or so one hopes! :0)

  3. Glad you are on the mend, albeit slowly.
Isn't this the craziest of things, definately a time to break the rules if ever there was one.

  4. Common sense is a greatly undervalued commodity. Particularly by intelligent people who have none. Intelligence and common sense are not mutually exclusive but I have to say that some of the cleverest people I have known have been totally devoid of common sense.

  5. Ho Ho! I quite agree.
Sorry haven't visited lately... only one hand working at the moment. Op went well but infection got the better of me afterwards. On the mend now I hope.
I'm glad to see you up and about again.

  6. Don't take any initiative, just follow the rules. Too many people are doing just that.
