A new word for me!

"Tsundoku" (n.) is the constant act of buying books, but never reading them. Specifically, it is letting books pile up in one's room so much that the owner never gets a chance to read all of them.

The origin of "Tsundoku" is Japanese slang.

  2. Not guilty - I do have a pile of books, but a) I have not bought any of them myself and b) I do read them one by one, slowly but surely :-)

  4. I was just going to say it sounded Japanese. Must be a problem in that country if they have a word for it. I am a little like that, but I don't think it has reached the stage of pathological...yet.

  8. Great word! And count me in, I suffered from tsundoku!
Well, the problem is that not the book hoarder suffers, at least I didn't, and I guess the tsundokists among you won't suffer either!?.. However, the people around me and my wallet did suffer from my piles of books. And due to lack of room I started to give away / sell many of them and I must confess I don't miss them (I guess because I kept sufficient interesting books, and I rediscovered the library).
