I am back

I’m back after a lengthy gap – the details of which I shall not bore you with.

At the weekend, after a scary journey down from Scotland, GB came to The Wirral to pick me up and take me back North.  This is GB – brother, friend, carer, caterer, chauffeur, and host for the next few weeks.

We stayed on Sunday night at the Royal Dunkeld in Dunkeld and on the way GB found a spot from which I could photograph Stirling Castle, something I have never managed to do before.

On Monday we paused at The Blair Atholl watermill which I had never seen before.

This nearby building looks like a fulling mill.

One advantage of not being in a hurry and having an amenable chauffeur (as both GB and Partner are) is that one can turn around and take photos when you pass something attractive.  This is the old packhorse bridge at Carrbridge.

As we got further into The Highlands the patches of snow on the tops got larger and larger, even on South facing slopes.

This is the new ferry, MV Loch Seaforth, coming in to berth at Ullapool.  The cars were soon loaded and we were on our way across The Minch to the Outer Hebrides.

Hopefully there will be more blog posts in the near future including one on Scottish postboxes and another on some of the changes to the Island since I was last here a couple of years ago.

  2. You've been missed, Sir. So glad to see you back, and with photos of one of my favourite parts of Scotland, Perthshire. Looking forward to your observations on changes (changes!!) on the Island, as well, a favourite place of mine in its own right. Glory and throve in that magical place. McGregor

  5. Glad you are back. I hope that means that you are feeling better. Love the photos, the buildings, the beautiful scenery, and I love the sign attached to your brother. I think that should be my motto.

  8. I first read this post on my tablet, and trying to write a comment there but when I was going to send that off my fingers slipped and I accidentally ended up on another page. As you have comment moderation on I'm not sure whether it got sent off or just got lost - so I'm making another attempt (from the my computer) a bit later. Anyway it's good to see you back in the Blogworld and also back with GB on Lewis :) I wish you both a very good time together. And I very much enjoyed the pictures in this post. You know I love castles - and that old bridge is a beauty, too!

  9. Thank you for the eminently wonderful conundrum of deciding which of these gorgeous photos to use for my computer wallpaper first! I was so excited about Stirling Castle, and then the other ones kept making me say "Oh... that one! That one!" Maybe I'll just start with Stirling and cycle through them each week. SO GLAD you had a good trip, looking forward to all future posts and pics!

  11. It's good to have you here again after a year (or is it two?) of absence. Already we've managed more crosswords than days together. I'm not quite sure I approve of the nifty bit of captioning on the first photo though.

  15. Beautiful pics and I'll look forward to more in the future! That bridge is amazing. I can't imagine crossing it because it looks so high and narrow. Glad you're back and hopefully feeling fit! Take care John!

  19. I can't get over how adventurous the both of you are! I can barely go into the next state over without a large sigh for all of the traveling. I love you sharing your views with the world, John. I'm glad I came for a visit. I've been looking through your wanders. I've not been here in about as longs as you've last written, so "hello, again" :)

  20. All enjoyable pictures. I have never been to the Highlands (no further than Loch Lomond) so enjoy you taking me there. I have been north about the Scottish Isles on a ship though but that does not count.
