Award For Photographic Excellence

Some Sundays I give an award to one of my favourite blogging photographers. When I first started blogging and looking at Blogs it was the excellence of people’s photos that attracted me. Nowadays I am equally interested in the writing but every now and then a particular photo reminds me how many brilliantly talented amateurs there are out there. The award is in no particular order so please don't feel left out if others precede you!

And today's Photographic Excellence Award goes to my son-in-law Mark (and about time too since he was 'nominated' by Ian months ago!). Mark's postings are well worth examining in detail because he explains some of the photographic and software techniques he uses to achieve his resultsa.

I thought the glimpse of his travels, family and friends was a great way of celebrating the end of 2009.

But one of my favourites was a simple rock and water one – making a great photo out of something so simple takes a real artist’s eye.

And today's Photographic Excellence Award goes to Elaine Dale. Elaine lives in southwestern Ontario, Canada but is a Newfoundlander by birth and by heart. She has been an avid photographer for as long as she can remember, “starting as a kid with a Kodak camera and flash cubes”.

Just look, for example, at the Black-capped Chickadee (which. of course, reminds me of my regular Canadian visitor – Carol) and the barn in the same posting. Her blog is well worth a visit.

Each Sunday I normally give an award to one of my favourite blogging photographers. The recipient is welcome to display the award on their blog but is equally welcome not to do so. There is no passing on or writing deep secrets necessary. It is simply an acknowledgement from me of how much I have appreciated the person’s photographs. The person I would have chosen to give it to today is Lynda Lehmann. Her photos are brilliant. However, Lynda is not an Award person - something I can quite sympathise with - so today I am not giving an award (unless Lynda changes her mind!!!) but I am strongly recommending you pay her blog a visit!

in poarticular I suggest her Country Dreams posting - the second photo looks as though it should be in a Big Victorian frame - it is the perfect country scene.

I am an old fashioned sort of photographer who generally is more interested in what one can achieve with the camera than what effects can be managed with computer software. Adrian uses both to great effect and I enjoy some of the great textures he achieves even before playing with them. I have also been delighted with how many unusual places he has already managed to visit on his motorhome tour. Already he has found lots of interesting spots in areas that I thought I knew pretty well. If you want a trip around the UK stick with him - it promises to be great.

Heather’s blog – Simply Joyful Photos – is full of pictures that capture the beauty of her world. I also love the quoitations that Heather finds to accompany her photos; like "A smile appeared upon her face as if she'd taken it directly from her handbag and pinned it there". ~Loma Chandler.

Heather is also the instigator and manager of ‘Soaring through the world in pictures’ which has brought so many other excellent photographers to my attention.

So Heather deserves this award twice over – firstly for the quality of her delightful pictures and secondly for encouraging others to share their photos right across the world. Thank you, Heather.

And today's Photographic Excellence Award goes to my esteeemed brother GB. I have had the advantage over most people of seeing his photos since the 1960s! Now you can see them on his British blog and his New Zealand one. But some of his best appear on the multi-photographer blog "Soaring through the World in Pictures".
