Carr Farm
Last Sunday we went to Carr Farm - a mixture of garden centre and gift shops - near Moreton on the Wirral. In the courtyard there is a shop called Glass Galore. Inside were some brilliant metal artworks. I was really impressed with them.
One in particular - these fish - would have found a new home but for our lack of wall space.

The Dream
On Saturday GB took Jo and I to see The Dream - a 20 metre high statue that overlooks the M62 motorway in St Helens between Liverpool and Manchester.
Located on the old Sutton Manor colliery site the pre-cast concrete statue, designed by Jaum Plensa, portrays the image of a young girl's face with her eyes closed.
While we were on the footpath leading down from the statue we were treated to the sight of Kestrel hovering as it hunted for food. Another opportunity to test the new camera that GB has bought me for my birthday. It will be one well-used camera by the time my birthday actually arrives!
In the meantime Jo has inherited my previous camera and is getting to know it.
I can certainly recommend a trip to see The Dream if you are in the area - it is beautifully serene as well as being impressive.
Michaelmas
It's Michaelmas. Michaelmas, the feast of Saint Michael the Archangel (also the Feast of SS Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael or the Feast of Michael and All Angels) is a day in the Christian calendar which occurs on 29 September. Because it falls near the equinox, it is associated in the northern hemisphere with the beginning of autumn and the shortening of days. Michael was the greatest of all the archangels and is honoured for his defeat of Lucifer in the battle for the heavens in the Bible. Coincidentally, women born between September 27 and 30 are statistically more likely to marry men with a variation of Michael for a name

Christmas is coming
GB took Jo and I on various trips this weekend - to shops, to see the Dream statue (about which I shall blog another day) , and so on.
One thing that really delighted me as I played with my new camera was how many colourful displays there were everywhere.
I was amazed to see that the shops are already gearing up for Christmas.
Only 87 more shopping days to Christmas.... Gosh - I'd better make a start.

Happy Monday - some Senior Moments
A couple in their nineties are both having problems remembering things. During a checkup, the doctor tells them that they're physically okay, but they might want to start writing things down to help them remember ..
Later that night, while watching TV, the old man gets up from his chair.
'Want anything while I'm in the kitchen?' he asks.
'Will you get me a bowl of ice cream?'
'Sure..'
'Don't you think you should write it down so you can remember it?' she asks.
'No, I can remember it.'
'Well, I'd like some strawberries on top, too. Maybe you should write it down, so as not to forget it?'
He says, 'I can remember that. You want a bowl of ice cream with strawberries.'
'I'd also like whipped cream. I'm certain you'll forget that, write it down?' she asks.
Irritated, he says, 'I don't need to write it down, I can remember it! Ice cream with strawberries and whipped cream - I got it, for goodness sake!'
Then he toddles into the kitchen. After about 20 minutes, The old man returns from the kitchen and hands his wife a plate of bacon and eggs.. She stares at the plate for a moment.
'Where's my toast ?'
********************************************
And then there was the senior citizen who said to his eighty-year old buddy:
'So I hear you're getting married?'
'Yep!'
'Do I know her?'
'Nope!'
'This woman, is she good looking?'
'Not really.'
'Is she a good cook?'
'Naw, she can't cook too well.'
'Does she have lots of money?'
'Nope! Poor as a church mouse.'
'Well, then, is she good in bed?'
'I don't know.'
'Why in the world do you want to marry her then?'
'Because she can still drive!'
*******************************************
Morris, an 82 year-old man, went to the doctor to get a physical.
A few days later, the doctor saw Morris walking down the street with a gorgeous young woman on his arm.
A couple of days later, the doctor spoke to Morris and said, 'You're really doing great, aren't you?'
Morris replied, 'Just doing what you said, Doc: 'Get a hot mamma and be cheerful.''
The doctor said, 'I didn't say that.. I said, 'You've got a heart murmur; be careful.'

This Sunday's Photography Award
Each Sunday I give an award to one of my favourite blogging photographers. (The award is in no particular order so please don't feel left out if others precede you!)
The recipient is welcome to display the award on their blog but is equally welcome not to do so. There is no passing on or writing deep secrets necessary. It is simply an acknowledgement from me of how much I have appreciated the person’s photographs. This week I am awarding it to Pixel Queen (Sandi from California).
A recent wedding at which she took photos included this brilliant shot of rings.
After weddings come babies so take a peek at these toes!
And then as they grow up you get beautiful subjects and shots like this one of Sandi’s daughter.

Friday My Town Shoot-out - My favourite place to...
This week’s subject for the My Town Shoot-out is “My favourite place to ________” by Cindy. Why not pop along and visit her in Alaska.
My favourite place to watch the sky – from my brother’s house on Lewis, the Western Isles.
And my favourite place to watch the sun rise and the sun set – also my brother’s house on Lewis, the Western Isles.
My favourite place to look at ships – Stornoway harbour.
My favourite place to walk on the beach – the Western Isles.
My favourite place to visit the Iron Age - the Western Isles.
My favourite place for a coffee – The Woodlands Centre, Stornoway
My favourite place to look at old and remote buildings – the Western Isles.
My favourite place to sit in the sun – outside my brother’s house – the Western Isles.
My favourite place to read – in bed.
My favourite place to relax - in the bath. (It amused me putting a copyright notice on this one - like anyone is going to want to pinch a photo of my knees!!!)
