A final selection from Uncle Eric's photos. There will, however, be some of my Mum and Dad's old black and white photos at some stage in the future.
Yes, he loved his Bentley - even to the extent of photographing its engine!
He made his own canoe and enjoyed taking it on the Rivers Dee and Mersey. On the back of this photo he had written "Her ladyship'Water Bug' and skipper on the Mersey".
In later years he built this Broads cruiser - the Silver Slipper.
Do you recall those days when the self-timer always went off too quickly! This was a case of third time lucky..
Alcester on Uncle Eric's 1930 cycling tour.
Cottages at Hale near liverpool - 1930s.
And finally, one that I haven't been able to place but which might be Warwick or Kenilworth as I think it is a castle on the hill in the distance and may have been taken on his 1930 Warwickshire cycling tour.

Too funny, timer running out before he could get to the bench. I do remember those days. I am impressed that he built his canoe and then the boat.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fascinating individual!!! He built boats, too! Amazing.
ReplyDeleteI love the ladies in their hats in the last photo.
;^)
I have really enjoyed this series. I'll bet that Uncle Eric would have loved the Friday Shootouts! And he would have put us all to shame.
ReplyDeleteMust have had a sense of humour too, keeping that series of timer shots... ;)
ReplyDeleteLOVELY photos! Thanks for the follow!
ReplyDeleteJohn, just had another look through uncles old photos, not Ansel Adams but I love them. I can't do it but you could, an old photo a Week Day, like your Happy Monday, something to tune in and look forward to. If you see anything that needs a bit of a shove e-mail it me and a seeing to it will get, I will e-mail it back for you to compress. All the best.
ReplyDeleteThanks Adrian - what a great suggestion and I may well take you up on your offer. I'm scanning in Mum and Dad's photos at this very moment!
ReplyDeleteJohn, you are welcome to use me or not, I just think that old images are priceless. I also believe that an image should be displayed at it's best.
ReplyDeleteWould be a feast.
Hope you can fit it into your blog.
Black and white photos are somehow timeless. They don't change colour the way that colour photos do.

ReplyDeleteScriptor Senex can you tell me when she was built and where any info would be great ,,thanks MARK
ReplyDeleteMark, I've passed your request on to my brother, GB, at http://rotowhenua2.blogspot.com/.
ReplyDeleteHe has a log book from the Silver Slipper but it will be in his Hebridean home and he is away in New Zealand until around May so it will be a long time before he can respond. I don't know if the log book shows when Eric Body built her but she was built in the garden of his Norfolk home and launched on the Broads from the bottom of his garden. I suspect GB will have his Norfolk address somehwre.
