oh yes.... we went freedom camping around Skye and the trusty primus was just like that. My Dad passed away two weeks ago so we have been reliving those happy memories lately.... I even mentioned the primus at his funeral. He was 91. Miss him so much but so grateful for so many years together.

No. Actually, the picnics of my youth consisted of tunafish salad on toast, or ham and cheese sandwiches, at the beach with my mother and sister, during the summers of the late 1960's / early 1970's when my father was at work earning our keep. Or, conversely, eaten in the car with my father at the steering wheel, on our way to visit Mom's family in North Carolina, during my dad's summer vacation and/or our Christmas holidays. Never involved a live flame of any sort...
I remember trying to get them lit (using methylated spirits) and then shading them from the wind and keeping the little hole clear with prickers. Such fun!

ReplyDeleteI don't remember that, but I do remember a little camping gaz stove! really it was intended for camping so was quite light.
