It's Monday

Various Mondays in January have been given the title of Blue Monday -  one of the most depressing days of the year.   But today there is a way to combat depression and stress because it is

Or, to be more precise, Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day. The last Monday of January was designated as Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day after a radio station in Bloomington, Indiana received a shipment of microphones wrapped in bubble wrap, which, after being unwrapped and installed, inadvertently broadcast the sound of their wrappings being popped.

There are, of course, many uses for bubble wrap -

(the above picture can be enlarged by clicking on it).

Then there is the Fairy outfit -

 or straightforward dresses -

Or bridal outfits -

If you are an obsessive compulsive popper you can always buy a key-ring accessory that feels like and sounds like bubble wrap but never runs out and makes a different weird sound one very hundredth pop.

Ignore Blue Mondays,  have a popping good day...

  1. I love to pop bubble wrap. Those wedding dresses look a little risque'. I always wonder how you come up with your ideas for a blog post. Does it just come to you or do you get inspiration while surfing the net? Is that the same cat that ran away? (I'm having a brain fart because her name is on the tip of my tongue but I can't seem to reach it)

    1. Her name was Ivy, JarieLyn, and although this looks remarkably like her it is just a picture I found on the net. We discovered when searching for Ivy that there are an awful lot of black cats that look almost identical!!

  3. To be honest (and I am honest most of the time), I have never understand the problem many people seem to have with January. What's wrong with this innocent month? It is no different from any other month. On the contrary, it is the start of a new year, and we should feel optimistic and positive about what we are going to do over the next 12 months, where we are going to go, whom we are going to meet, etc. OK, I admit not everybody has much reason for being optimistic, but I dare say that most of this circle of bloggers are relatively well off materially, live in politically stable surroundings and have reason to complain only on a much higher level than bare survival.

    Anyway, back to bubble wrap:
I LOVE IT! The moment I first came into contact with bubble wrap is still fresh in my mind. My sister and I were about 8 and 9 years old. We were given two candle holders in the shape of angels from one of my godmothers. They came wrapped up nicely as presents, and inside their cardboard boxes, they were wrapped in bubble wrap. We discovered that we were able to pop the bubbles, and I remember the two of us sitting there at the table, not stopping until we had popped each and every last bubble on our respective sheets of wrap.

  4. Fortunately I suffer neither from January nor Monday blues. That doesn't stop me from thinking bubblewrap is a very useful inventions although, sadly, I have no urge to burst the bubbles: I reuse it too frequently.

  5. I have a carrier bag full of bubble wrap salvaged from various deliveries, just waiting to be reused in gifts, packages etc.... but there's enough that I can spare a bit for popping on this special B.W.A.D. So I'm off to do some therapeutic popping.... see ya later alligator!

  6. Days when we got something with bubble wrap in the post or delivery of some sort were a big deal when the children were young. We would spread it out and dance on it! They still love to pop the bubble wrap.

  9. Years ago, in a book about ministry from the 1920's, I found a reference to "Blue Mondays" for those who preach; a kind of lingering depression over how and what they preached on Sunday. It happens.

  11. Such a smile causing blog! Thank you for sharing these funny pictures!

By the way, even though Spring is my favourite season, I love January (including mondays). For several reasons, one of them because the days are getting longer (which starts already after 21st of December, but in January the growong amount of daylight becomes more clear - in our northern hemispehre, that is :-) )
The fact that 26th of January has become a bubble wrap celebration day makes this month even more great :-)
