Friday My Town Shoot-out - Fireworks
This week's subject for the Friday My Town Shoot-out is Fireworks - chosen by the Town Blogger Team. The USA celebrates 4th July with fireworks but ‘Bonfire Night’ – November 5th - is the main UK night for fireworks. A few are also let of at New Year and special events.
November 5th celebrates the attempt by Guy Fawkes and others to blow up the Houses of Parliament in 1605 – complete with king James I who was in the process of the annual ceremony opening Parliament. Despite the fact that a lot of us might be tempted to do the same to some of our modern politicians, Guy Fawkes was seen as the baddy and the bonfires were created to burn an effigy of Guy Fawkes.

I like your last shot - clear and interesting composition.... course your only to be congradulated on the clarity - the composition is just luck.... good timing / a steady hand.
ReplyDeleteWow ...I have read about the bonfires there celebrating that day!! That shot is amazing!! Wow!
ReplyDeleteWonderful fireworks too!!!
Wonderful shootout!
Sarah:)
I read about Guy Fawkes to my students last November. It was pretty interesting stuff! I like these night time shots a lot.
ReplyDeleteWe used to celebrate Guy Fawkes night on 5 November when I was a child but the authorities got fed up with the number of fires that started as a result when the summer was dry, so now it's in May. Not the same somehow when it's cold. And now, because of injuries, I suspect that it is only a matter of time before only public displays are permitted. They are more spectacular, of course, but not the same as sky rockets and sparklers in your back yard.
ReplyDeleteSay hello to GB!
Beautiful photos! over here only the American community celebrates the 4th of July with a small fireworks and I didn't have the time to take photos on that.
ReplyDeleteThe bonfire is a spectacular shot. We only have public bonfires for School Homecomings here in Texas. I'll be sure to take my camera for the next ones in the Fall. Love your fireworks photos as well.
ReplyDeleteWow, your bonfire photo is stunning. What a great shot. I enjoyed your celebration very much.
ReplyDeleteNice, did you and GB meet on the net?
ReplyDeleteSaw his comment in another blogger's siet.
love the second shot!! awesome! great fireworks also.
ReplyDelete(my word verification is bless)
No Ann, we didn't meet on the net. We're brothers so we met sixty years ago! I beleve that GB's comment on first seeing his new baby brother was "Well he's not going to be much use for football".
