Rannoch Moor

If I were asked to name my ten favourite places I would be really hard pressed to know where to start but coming across this picture I took of Rannoch Moor in the 1970s makes me pretty certain that it would be one of the ten.

Whatever the weather I always stop on the moor and have a little wander and on various occasions have discovered interesting wildlife like Common Lizards which Jo caught and held for a while – it seemed to quite enjoy her warm palm (I haven’t traced that photo yet).

Another good sighting was of an Azure Hawker which I also managed to photograph.

I reported its exact location to the Rare Dragonfly Project and they confirmed it was a new 10km square record and the following year they held a field trip at the spot and were delighted to find the larvae.
