A journey down to Exeter (part 1)

Jo and I left Merseyside in glorious sunshine on Friday morning and I began the way I meant to go on by photographing a house at the Clatterbidge roundabout from the car window.

They say it is quicker by train. So why was this carriage travelling on the M53?

I had forgotten the golden rule of car journeys and wore something light so it was reflected in the window all the time. This is a field of rape for rapeseed oil - one of many as we passed through Cheshire. Indeed, rape was the most noticeable crop for the whole of our journey down the England / Wales border which was the way we had decided to go. It is no longer in mileage than going on the motorway but a lot longer in journey time. A fact more than made up for by the beauty of the scenery.

"If the Oak is out before the Ash we'll have a splash." The oak (in the background) was much further out than the ash (foreground) everywhere we went today.

Along the flat Cheshire plain.

And into slightly hillier North Shropshire.

Fields of rape, dairy cattle and the newly emerging Oaks continued to be the main sources of photos.

The journey will resume after this short break at The Copper Kettle at Leebotwood, near Shrewsbury, for a morning coffee accompanied by hot apple and blackberry crumble with custard. Jo had her traditional tea and a toasted teacake.
