Easy for him to spout rubbish....he has never had to go home, on the bus or otherwise, to a woman.
ReplyDeleteDaft old bugger!
oh, Adrian, but he did! he even rode the bus in Rome!
DeleteOh dear - oh dear.
ReplyDeleteOtherwise, I am speechless.
And God made Man, then shook his head and said...No, he definitely is not up to the job of ruling the earth on his own...
ReplyDeleteThat's kind - I thought you were going to end that comment at 'he is definitely not up to the job of ruling the earth'. Full stop.
DeleteI don't know Hebrew (the original language of the OT) but one of the modern Swedish translations of Genesis interprets the passage in question: "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make him a helper to be his equal." I like that.
DeleteI like that too....very much...now only if we can get the men to understand what it means.
DeleteCJ, why do you want to get me started on this quote so early in the morning?
ReplyDeleteI TOTALLY disagree of course.
That is the old way of thinking, but it hasn't kept us women from doing our thing.
I am woman, hear me ROOOAAAARRRR!!!
Wow - that is a good roar. Well done, you.
Deleteand, Virginia, who knows how long ago this was said, if it was said by then Cardinal.
DeleteLovely, innit? How anyone in their right mind can lean back and firmly believe that this man represents God on Earth is beyond me. I never was Catholic, but if I were, I think now would be a good time to quit that club.
ReplyDeleteAs pyramid sales schemes go, the Catholic Church has to be the most lucrative ever. How's about selling some paintings and gold chairs and donating the money to some starving people elsewhere who are waiting for gods to provide (and of course who never do on account of there not being any). Blinkin load of old nonsense.
ReplyDeleteOops -I hadn't set out to create a Catholic Church bashing. But since the Pope did say these words in 2007 when Christina Kirchner stood for election in the Argentina presidential elections I suppose he (and the Church) have to live with all their consequences.
DeleteOh, my, Scriptor -- you are a brave one to take on the Catholic Church so early in the day! But I fear you are right about one thing -- the more things change the more they stay the same, and probably it will be business as usual for the Holy See within days, if not minutes....a new broom may sweep clean, but thousands of years of orthodoxy are pretty hard to budge. xoxox
ReplyDeleteoops, is right! well, here's my soapbox...the Catholic Church has provided help for the poor, the uneducated, etc. when there were no government hand-outs. we still do! I had not heard these things that were quoted about our new Pope. I just pray that he can make some healing happen with all the problems our US priests have caused. (and perhaps other countries as well, don't know) The cardinal is well known for his work with the poor and his humility. He lived in a private apartment, not the palace of the archbishop. He rode the bus, not in a limo. whew, I'm done...for now.
ReplyDeleteGod bless those who disagree with me.
blessed be
No one ever said the Catholic church was uncharitable, Norma, only that they really don't want women to have power. Even the most devout believer can't say that the Curia really wants to share its power with the distaff side of the church. If they did, they'd be punishing rogue priests, not making life miserable for the nuns!
