Kilt Pins and Ivory Needles

I've been looking through my sewing box recently while doing some embroidery. I thought I'd show you a couple of the things I found in there.

A kilt pin (but no kilt).

A couple of ivory knitting needles.

A little metal needle holder.

A needle manufacturer's needle holder which dispenses various sizes of needle according to which hole you twist the end to.

A double-eyed 'thingy'. Does anyone know what it is for?

A different sort of double eyed thingy - again I don't know it's purpose.

I shall show you some more things from the sewing box another day.

Bummer - I've run out

Bummer, I've run out of pre-scheduled blog postings. I was hoping they would last until the study decorating was finished and the desktop computer was up and running again.

They haven't.

Papercages reckons some us have been moaning a bit lately so I won't go on about the decorating again. Nor will I mention the fact that the rest of the house is a tip while all this is going on...

On the other hand, if I concentrate on positive happy things this is going to be my shortest posting ever.

Back soon, I hope!

Decorating

How is the decorating of the study going, I hear you all ask. Well, actually I don't hear anyone asking it apart from A Woman of No Importance, but that's not going to stop me from telling you...

The ceiling has had four coats of white, the walls have been stripped and had four coats of magnolia paint, the windows have had two coats of white and the door frame has had a coat. My trousers have had a coat - mixed magnolia and white. Then came time to give the door a coat. Needless to say I had removed the door handle and, as always, I had made sure I had a pair of pliers in the room in case the door closed on me. At least, I thought I had the pliers in the study with me. When the door slammed in the wind I discovered I didn’t - they were on the landing. I phoned Jo - who was downstairs - but she was in one of her ‘not-answering-the-phone’ moods. So I happily painted away until such time as she got around to listening to her messages! Good job I didn’t do it when she was at work. The door has now had two coats but looks awful so I may sand it down and do it again.

In the meantime I have to use the laptop until the study is finished and my desktop computer is up and running again. I don’t like the laptop keyboard. Indeed, if had left that sentence as it was first written it would be something like “I do’t ke th laotoo keybod“. For reasons best know to itself it leaves lots of letters out. Added to that I don’t have Office on it so I can’t automatically underline spelling errors.

hOWEVER, (The laptop DOES THAT ALL THE TIME AS WELL!) the end result, a clean and bright and hopefully tidy study will be worth it.

Tropical Fish

In my previous life I had a tropical fish tank. It was one of the few physical objects rescued from my first marriage. It survived the move out into a flat but after a couple of years I got married again and a couple of years after that we moved into a house to allow for our expanding family. The tank didn’t survive the second move and was no longer waterproof. It ended up being a display case for crystals for a few years. I promised myself I’d get a new tank when we had the money. It has never materialised but I really would like to have fish again. This despite having, for a number of years, a strange nightmare in which I had abandoned the tank and the poor things were trying to survive without being fed or cleaned. (Go away, Freud, I’ve no time for you just now.)

The problems would arise when I wanted to visit GB and Helen or otherwise go away for a while. These photos are of some of the species I had; most of which I would like to have in my new tank...
