Today Partner-who-loves-tea
and I leave Lewis for Harris and the Isle of Skye. My weeks of enjoying GB;s
hospitality will be at an end. I wrote the following just a few short nights
ago. I can’t believe those four whole
days have vanished so quickly. Nor that
the five weeks of bveing on the Island have gone, just like that (he wrote, snapping his fingers to demonstrate
what he meant).…
Partner-who-loves-tea has arrived on the Island - Whoopee or Hieperderpiep hoera! as the Dutch would say so
poetically. She sailed over from
Ullapool on the evening ferry on Tuesday.
GB drove me down to the ferry terminal to meet
her. We headed over The Briaghe towards Stornoway
and the setting sun.
I had time for a quick wander around
the harbour, looking at some of the boats.
The Lewis Diver came
in.
And so did Delta –
there must have been something interesting going on there!
A couple of fire engines arrived at the terminal – I wonder
why?
The ferry arrived.
One of the Stornoway statues of a herring girl, with the
ferry in the background.
The bow doors of the ferry begin to open… it’s time to walk
around the corner to meet Jo’s car as she drives it off the ferry into the car
park.
Google Latitude on Jo’s phone shows us together again after
six weeks of communicating via texts and e-mails…
It seems like an age since I went down to the Wirral and we went to Exeter. An age and yet, as you say, the time has passed so quickly. I'm back to having to think for myself when I do my crossword with my coffee.
ReplyDeleteAh, but not for long, GB. You'll be off to Italy in no time...
DeleteWe are sad to see you go but look forward to your next visit. Jo says she hopes it will a longer visit for her next time - do hope so.
ReplyDeleteWe have loved having you here and look forward to the next time so "Haste ye back".
Wishing you both a safe and enjoyable journey home.
With love from us all at Upper Bayble x
And a big thank you to you for your hospitality! We'll b eback a.s.a.p.
DeleteReunited and it feels so good.... I can hear the happiness in your post.
ReplyDeleteHave yourselves a safe and enjoyable trip!
Love all of the boat pictures. It sounds like you have been having a wonderful get-away.
ReplyDeleteWelcome, Jo! So glad you arrived safely. I know CJ and GB were so glad to see you again.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the drive home! Take care and God bless, xoxo Carol
Looks like Jo had good weather for the ferry ride then. I hope you did on your way back, too. Those are magnificent photos from the harbour!
ReplyDeleteWe did, Monica. It was the calmest crossing I've ever had and Jo said the same thing about her arrival one as well.
DeleteGreat boat pictures. My husband's a boat freak so we always go to look at boats. But your red and blue ones are beauties. How hard to leave those beautiful islands. That statue of the herring girl is fascinating. I have seen a couple very similar with cod in Norway.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful weather and pictures. Did you ever learn why all the officials were there?
ReplyDeleteNo, I still don't know why the fire engines turned up. Practising perhaps?
DeleteI, too, have delighted in Skye, and though it has been 9 years since I visited, I delight in her still. Photos help.
ReplyDeleteI met you at Imaginary Gardens with Real Toads this week. Have you been by to see what your photos have generated? I really want you to see mine, as it is a letter to you. You will find it here: http://susanspoetry.blogspot.com/2012/08/drum-end-line-poem.html
Thank you for taking up blogging and for reaching all the way out!
Susan, I had the chance to check it on my phone on the way home and was really moved by it. Thank you very much indeed.
DeleteI took that ferry one day... long ago and far away.
ReplyDeleteAnd you will again. Soon, I hope.
DeleteLooks like you and tea-loving partner had an exciting time. I love the little boats and can't remember the last time I travelled in one of them.
ReplyDeleteI'm Anne, the author Judy has spoken to you about. I'm just stopping by to let you know that your guest post is ready. Thanks for allowing us to post.
Thanks Anne
DeleteIt's odd, and perhaps telling, that the days we desire so much register so lightly in our sense of the passage of time.
