Friday My Town Shoot-out - Black and Orange

  1. These are all amazing, and kinds I've never seen before. Come to think about it, black and orange are quite "popular" colours among butterflies though, aren't they?

  11. Firstly, yes, Ann, I do have a Monarch but tought enough was enough! I tend to get carried away and put too many photos on.

    The Clearwing Butterfly (Oleria rubescens) is a beautiful creature. Their wings lack the usual dense covering of scales that give other butterflies their distinct coloration. This transparency renders these clearwing butterflies elusive as they appear and disappear in the dense forest undergrowth. It is not found in the UK - execpt in butterfly houses wich is where I photographed this one.

    We do,however, have some moths with clear wings such as the Braod-bordered Bee Hawk Moth .
