LOST for Words

John Humphreys in his wonderful book “Lost for Words” commented that one shouldn’t worry about how quickly children learn to speak. “...But there are relatively few youngsters who do not eventually master the art of speaking in one form or another. Even if they never quite get the hang of communicating properly it may not be a complete disaster. They simply become professional footballers, earn £50, 000 a week and employ a publicity agent to speak on their behalf. Or they become politicians and their spin doctors teach them a set of formulas, which they trot out whenever the occasion demands it.
