Tomorrow’s the day
If you are in the UK and setting a sundial in position then tomorrow is a good day to do it. The sun’s position is due South at Noon GMT on 16th April, 15th June, 1st September and 25th December. (My maths / physics / astronomy isn’t adequate to tell me what you do if you are in the antipodes...)

It wouldn't have mattered yesterday (it's the 16 April here now) where the sun was so far as setting a sundial is concerned 'cos there's no way that any one could see the sun anyway. I'm not very good at these things but wouldn't it depend on your longitude as well as your hemisphere?
