This pub in Heswall, Wirral, stands on the site of an old bus station garage , next to the new bus terminus.
It is named after John (Jack) Pye who started the local bus service in about 1916.
Older locals, when reminiscing about the early bus service, would talk of Johnny Pye calling for you if you overslept!
In 1924 he sold out to the Crosville Traction Company of Chester. The old Heswall bus station - pictured here in 1947, is said to be the first to have been built in this country.

I wonder if these signs are originals or replicas?
ReplyDeleteThe pub itself is fairly new so they are probably 'original' but quite modern.
DeleteNice tribute :)
ReplyDeleteIs the pub a good place to eat or drink in? Looks fun! I went and checked out the previous posts and you really caught some lovely pics of that bird! Really pretty shots! Hope all is good and please take care!
ReplyDeleteI try not to be too critical of people or places in my blog so I shall leave your question about the pub unanswered, Yaya!
