Have a Lie In, Put the Kettle on, or say hello to a Pig.

"Throughout March it is National Bed Month in the UK -  time for a lie in before learning about the importance of a good night's sleep!  Organised by The Sleep Council, the month aims to remind us all of why a sound sleep is good for our health.

Forget the old saying that if "You snooze, you loose."  It's thought that a good sleep has amazing properties that make you healthier and happier, and can even add years to your life!

At the Sleep Council website, you can find out all about the essentials you need to have the perfect sleep, and of course, the right bed should be your number one priority.  In 1988 a ground breaking study found that by switching an uncomfortable old bed to a lovely new one meant an extra 42 minutes of sleep!
You can put your own bed through an MOT at the site and find out if changing it could lead to better sleep!

I love it when I've changed the bed linen and it has that lovely spring fresh smell.  There's no better time to snuggle up under a cosy duvet!  There are also lots of hints and tips on how you can improve your night time regime and get more shut eye.

So lie back, relax, and have much more than forty winks this National Bed Month! "

This week is also Time for  Cuppa week, organised by Dementia UK.

"Time for a Cuppa - Mmm, is there anything better than a cup of tea? No matter what, it just seems to make everything better!  And that's what Dementia UK are working to do: make things better for both people with dementia and their carers. There are around 820,000 people in the UK with dementia.  People with dementia gradually lose their memory.  This can mean forgetting all sorts of things, like who people are, and activities like washing, cooking and other things.

If dementia has touched you, there's no denying that it's heartbreaking. But Dementia UK can offer support that will ease and soften the load.  All they need now - is you!   Either in a small or larger gathering, round up some people to enjoy a nice cuppa and a good old chinwag.  And what makes every cup of tea?  A delicious cake or biscuit of course!

So ... once you have requested your fundraising pack and registered your event online you'll receive a pack of delicious recipes and lots of information about how you can make your event a success.  Remember to ask each person for a donation - every £15 raised will pay for the Dementia UK helpline to provide special support for a carer.   Find out more about Time for a Cuppa and information about making your donation by visiting the official website.

Why not set up a crossword competition too?  Statistics show that doing crosswords keeps the brain active and helps prevent memory loss.  Now what that clue to 1 across again ..."

And today is also National Pig Day in the USA!    National Pig Day???   Yes, that's right!

  1. A cup of tea in bed with a pig frolicking on the lawn outside sounds like the ideal life for me...
I love pigs- they are very intelligent, contrary to what many people believe.

  2. Only in the US, do you have a national pig day. :) It's Independence Day here in Bosnia and Herzegovina today! :)

  3. And I thought all this extra sleep I'm getting nowadays was because of my age and not my new bed. If you know what 1 across is please let me know because it's one of three clues that defeated me in the T2 with morning coffee.

  4. Well, I must have known it's National Bed Month as I had a lovely lie in today and didn't rise from my comfy bed until 8:30am! Very late for me. And of course the first word out of my mouth was Rabbits! First of the month, y'know!

  6. Oh goody... Just my kind of month/week... Been battling a cold over the last week so there's been a lot of both bed and tea! As for the pig day... hmm... would a ham sandwich to go with the tea be an appropriate celebration?

  7. My #1 son is a respiratory therapist and head of the sleep clinic at his hospital. He also gives lectures to companies about the effect that lack of sleep and sleep apnea has on people. I love my tea break I have every day....Orange spice herb tea...yum! Great, it's National Pig Day and I'm out of bacon...darn it! Have a great week John!

  8. My bed has always been my favourite place, ever since childhood I have loved to sleep - it would not have worked as a punishment if my parents had threatened to send me to bed! Just a few weeks ago, I have bought a new mattress for my bed here, and it makes a huge difference to how I feel in the morning. Yes, getting into bed with fresh sheets is one of the simple but intense pleasures in life I regularly enjoy.

  9. I'll go with the lie in and the cuppa tea, but I can do without the pig.
How are the two new pets doing. Rather kiss two cats than a pig!!

  10. It does amaze me the number of official "days" we have, and what they are about!

We need a new bed, but the cost is so high we have put it off. No doubt, we need to do it soon so we can get better rest.

  11. Well, this post is perfect for me, right down to pig day! I've been lying around, eating, and "forgetting" to do housework all weekend!

  12. Your post was just what I needed this morning! Only now I am feeling a little bit guilty, as I made a stew this morning that uses both a ham hock and pork chops. Pigs are so smart. What have I done?

As for my bed, I do love it, although I have to figure out a way to solve the sagging problem. It lists to the right because our floor is sagging that way. So then, I have to lean a little to the left.

  13. I know that I'm not at my best if I don't get the right amount of sleep (8 hours for me). National Pig Day came and went with me unaware. I know pigs are said to be intelligent, but have you ever passed by a pig farm? The worst smell I ever experienced!
