I have always liked the quote of Rebecca West - “I myself have never been able to find out precisely what feminism is: I
only know that people call me a feminist whenever I express sentiments
that differentiate me from a doormat.”
And like her I don't know what feminism is or if I am a feminist or not but when reading Charlotte's Web last year I happened upon an article by following a link under 'male feminists'.
On this, International Women's Day I would urge everyone, male and female alike, to READ THIS ARTICLE by Michael Kaufman who writes The Guy's Guide to Feminism. There are a lot of men who agree with what he writes and would want to join him in sending this letter of love to all women on this day.
Thank you for sharing that link CJ.
ReplyDeleteGot it John! There is a lot of wit in Michael's post 'of being a man' juxtaposed to that of feminism. Thanks for sharing!

Without having read (yet) any of the links you have provided, John, I may safely say that I am not a feminist. I simply take decisions and responsibility for myself and my own life without any male to tell me what to do, where to go (and who with), what to wear and how to live.
ReplyDeleteIt is my mother-in-law's 80th birthday today. Originally, I wanted to surprise her, but now that the direct flight between Stuttgart and Manchester has been cut, it would take me too long to get to Ripon for just the weekend. I know she'll have a good day without me, but it would have been nice.
Sara D. Bunting said "If you believe in, support, look fondly on, hope for, and/or work towards equality of the sexes, you are a feminist. "
ReplyDeleteThat's my favourite definition.
Very good article John, and I didn't even know it was a special day for women! Thanks for sharing that! I'm glad I have a wonderful hubby who treats me with respect, kindness and love and together we've raised 4 sons who are good men, fathers and husbands. I know you fall in that category too. Have a wonderful weekend and I hope you're feeling well.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Scriptor, I needed that! Bless you.... xoxox
ReplyDeleteThanks for the links CJ, they both made interesting reading.
ReplyDeleteI hope that you're feeling much better...I like your inspirational and thought-provoking posts....like this one.
What about a day for us non-international women?
ReplyDeleteThat's every day of the year - except Father's Day, I want that one!
