Friday My Town Shoot-out - Weird

This week's subject for the Friday My Town Shoot-out is "Weird" .  I've gone for an animal theme!

A weird elephant in Chester Cathedral.  This bench end was carved by a medieval craftsman who obviously hadn't seen an elephant.

Simply weird - at Plas Newydd.


Half a lion - is that weird or what?


A Penguin in West Kirby


A Hippo in Chester Cathedral

And a Superlambanana - thanks for the suggestion, Monica.

    Yes!! Good choices! Love to see the superlambanana again ;) and that hippo and the penguin are wonderful as well. And that elephant in the first picture is definitely weird...

    How funny - you know Scriptor that they can make whatever changes to anything, as long as their name is "artist":)
    I'm wondering though what an elephant is doing in a cathedral...

    I love that medieval carving, and I bet you're right about the craftsman having only the vaguest of descriptions to go on;really when I think about it, he did pretty well!

    Oh you nailed it after those initial self-doubts. The half lion is really weird even for sculpture. Like part of a set giant bookends.

    How's the weather?

    That tiger must have been sitting too much watching TV, that is why his bottom is so big.

    Last night, I watched your UK Midsomer Murder, as I sometimes do on a Saturday evening. This outsider comes to the village and starts killing people for no reasons. That is weird.

    But I like this show, no frivolous gun shooting, no plastic-surgeoned actresses. Just Inspector Barnaby and his side kick. Do you watch?

    Yes Ann, I too like cosy crime such as Midsomer Murders. I'm not sure I'd like to live near him though - I doubt even New York has a crime rate like his villages!
