I came across a new penny the other day – it seems strange to think that the biggest change in coinage history since decimalisation, is just occurring. Even more amazing to me is the fact that none of my children was around when the old pounds, shillings and pence were in existence so all the references I have ever made to ‘New Pence’ are, to them, simply the normal currency.
