The Year of the Pedestrian


I was still working when the Year of the Pedestrian (1988/9) came and went. So far as I recall it wasn't something that most local authorities bothered celebrating. One exception was Devon County Council which erected a statue in the High Street, Exeter. I like it.

    Does anybody know what the "year of the pedestrian" actually was? And what year we're in now?

    The year of the pedestrian was 1988/9 and was to encourage local communities top think about access and facilities for pedestrians. I don't know what year we are in now.
